CHRISTMAS MARKET

The Christmas food market will be held on 16 and 17 December at the Château de la Tuilerie, with tastings and displays in various parts of the domaine: tastings in the vault, the house by the pond, the wine garden. We have organised a series of workshops for this feast of the senses, allowing visitors to make their to taste the domaine’s wines, Chantal Comte rums, Mariage Frères teas, chocolates by Joël Durand (Saint Rémy), Anthony Marandon’s macaroons, Corsiglia’s candied chestnuts, Spanish cured meats by Tienda Iberica, truffles from the Maison de la truffe (Uzès), champagne (Laurent-Perrier, Drappier), the carthagène fortified wine, gin, vodka, Griottines (cherries macerated in alcohol) etc…

A Japanese tea master will initiate visitors in the ‘tea ceremony’ with a sumptuous exhibition of wedding kimonos…

There will also be a display of tableware, with beautiful Portuguese linen, and contemporary design in the shape of EKOBO’s elegant kitchen objects.

Vendanges 2011: harvesting is finished!

Though the media announced that they would be early this year, the vendanges of 2011 ended up taking place even later an last year. It was 29 August when we began to harvest the whites, and not until 8 September did we pick the first reds and make the first bleeding of rosé! The vendange was finished on 24 September and, now that the vats have been emptied and that fermentation is largely complete, we can at last say what a great success the 2011 vintage is!

Weather conditions and our careful tending of the vines have given us an excellent state of health allowing us to achieve perfect maturity! In all three colours, there are very encouraging signs that are confirmed for us on each day’s tasting: The whites are very aromatic and full-bodied, with a clear and pretty colour. The rosés have a very tender colour, a nose of raspberries, redcurrants, wild strawberries, and a good fresh attack. The reds are sumptuous: the Syrah is extremely impressive, with a colour close to black, stunning fruit, and very smooth tannins. Its exceptional quality will make this a very good vintage for Château de la Tuilerie and for Cuvée Eole! The Grenache is still fermenting, but that too is showing very promising signs. The sunny September days alternated with cool nights (11 to 14 degrees Celsius) and we harvested by night in order to bring the grapes in cold. Our new harvesting machine works remarkably well: it picks only healthy at fall grain by grain, without leaves or stalks, and that is part of the reason for the quality of these wines. The nocturnal vendange, starting at 3am and finishing at 10am, also means that we bring the grapes in cold to the caves, avoiding oxidation, intensifying the aromas and making a substantial saving in energy.

OUR OFFER for Autumn 2011 Diner de Chasse Rouge 2010 IGP d’OC

Dîner de chasse is a seasonal vintage, with each bottle numbered, and it is only available during the hunting season.

This beautiful Merlot wine has a deep, appetising and sensual colour. In the nose, there are aromas of black fruit, of underwoods and humus, with the cool sensation of a hunt in the forest. In the mouth, a velvety palate, powerful, fruity and spicey, with a woody note which does not however overpower the exquisite flavour of this delightful wine.

To be served at 17°C, with roast or grilled meats, game, and good cheeses.

New packaging: our boxes become more ‘glamorous’

As part of our ongoing quest for improved quality, and so that they are more robust when transported, we have changed our packaging boxes for coated cardboard. Their ‘look’ has changed too, and you will be able to recognise each vintage more easily.
La Tour de l’Or Marie Galante is now completely sold out. But La Tour de l’Or, réserve 2002, which comes next, has a more amber colour, aromas of cacao and Havana cigars with a very good length.

We apologise in advance for this transitional period, when there might still be a mix of old and new packaging because stocks of different wines do not all diminish at the same pace.

Rums…..Rums….. Rums…..

Sales of rum have been so high in September that we are already bottling the last barrels which were supposed to last us until Christmas.
La Tour de l’Or Marie Galante is now completely sold out. But La Tour de l’Or, réserve 2002, which comes next, has a more amber colour, aromas of cacao and Havana cigars with a very good length.

L’Arbre du Voyageur 2001, a marvel of finesse and complexity, will soon become a rarity: after the next bottling – which will also be the last for this beautiful 2001 vintage – there will be fewer than 3000 bottles left in stock.

The success of Fighting Spirit Blue means stocks are low, and I will be in Martinique and Guadeloupe at the end of November to source a few exceptional vintages, which I will tell you about soon…
